Brian L. Townsend, O.D.

Dr. Townsend established his own practice in 1991 after graduating from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He obtained his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1979. He completed his undergraduate education at James Madison University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree Cum Laude and with Distinction.

His commitment to state of the art eye care technology and continuous education in current procedures enable him to lead his TEAM in delivering the highest level of professional care to all patients. As a committed professional, Dr. Townsend maintains memberships with the American Optometric Association and the Virginia Optometric Association. His areas of specialty include family eye care, hard-to-fit contact lenses and ocular disease management.

It is Dr. Townsend’s pleasure and privilege to serve the eye care needs of the Mechanicsville community.

Jennifer B. Bowman, O.D.

Dr. Jennifer B. Bowman Optometrist, a Virginia native, is a graduate of Radford University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. After Dr. Bowman’s undergraduate training, she chose to attend Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington, Indiana where she obtained her Doctor of Optometry Degree. Her areas of special interest include Pediatric Primary Care, Vision Therapy and specialty contact lens fittings. She is deeply committed to patient care and enjoys working with patients from all walks of life. Dr. Bowman is licensed and certified to treat eye diseases by the Virginia Board of Optometry. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association, and the Richmond Optometric Society.
In her off time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and sons.

The first step towards better vision is to schedule an appointment. Dr Bowman is accepting new patients and takes most insurance plans.

Rachael N. Bowling

Rachael N. Bowling has been employed with Dr. Brian L. Townsend’s office for over 13 years. She considers the staff her “second family”. She pours her heart and soul into the practice by advancing with cutting edge technology.

Rachael enjoys her role and responsibilities as the office manager and licensed optician. She increases her knowledge in many aspects of the ever-changing eye care industry by attending numerous continuing education classes and seminars. She brings a friendly and helpful personality enabling her to develop long lasting positive relationships with both patients and staff. She is always eager to lend a helping hand, sharing her knowledge and expertise. She is able to assist patients in many roles, from frame and lens selection to insurance questions.

When Rachael is not working, you will find her spending time with her husband and two daughters, Madison and Olivia.
